Patio Sealing
Patio sealing is a separate decision from patio cleaning. Before applying a sealer, consider the paving material, its condition and the finish you want. Ask whether we can include it with your patio clean when you get in touch.

Start with the paving, not the product
The material and existing finish should guide any sealing decision. Natural stone, concrete slabs and other paving products do not all respond in the same way. An existing coating can also affect what can be applied next. Check the paving manufacturer's guidance and the proposed sealer's instructions rather than choosing only by the appearance of a sample photograph.
If you do not know the material, keep any installation paperwork and take clear photographs of the surface and joints. A picture can help start a conversation, although it may not identify a stone or coating conclusively. Do not assume that a finish recommended for a block-paved driveway is automatically right for a patio made from different material.
Cleaning and preparation come first
A coating is not a substitute for cleaning away dirt, algae or loose material. Before sealing is considered, the patio needs an appropriate preparation plan. That may reveal worn joints, damaged slabs or residues from an older treatment. Those issues should be identified rather than hidden under a new finish. Prime offers jet washing for patios, paths and driveways as a separate service.
The cleaning method itself should suit the paving and its condition. Fragile surfaces, loose pointing and a previously applied finish need consideration before work starts. When enquiring about cleaning, say whether you intend to seal later, so the proposed work can be discussed in that context. Ask whether sealing can be included with your patio clean and check what the quote covers.
Drying, weather and the surrounding space
Application requirements vary between products. Follow the specified surface condition, drying period and weather limitations instead of using a universal waiting time. A patio that looks dry on top may not meet the requirements of a particular system. The installer or product guidance should explain what must be checked before application and when the area can be used again.
Think about where people, pets and garden furniture will go while work is underway. Include thresholds, drains and adjoining planted borders when discussing the layout. Keep runoff, application and disposal requirements in the planning conversation rather than improvising once a product is open. Ask about the chosen product and any precautions needed before it is applied.
Appearance and upkeep
Some finishes change the colour or sheen of paving, while others aim for a less visible effect. The result depends on the surface and the chosen product. Ask whether a discreet test area is appropriate and what the expected appearance is once the application has cured. A small sample should be judged in the conditions in which the patio will actually be used.
Sealing does not remove the need for routine maintenance. Leaves, dirt and surface growth can still need attention, and future cleaning should be compatible with the finish. Ask how upkeep is expected to work and what would be required if the coating later needs renewing. Avoid treating a sealer as a promise of permanent protection or a patio that never needs cleaning.
Keeping the enquiry and quote clear
A useful enquiry includes the paving type, approximate area, current condition and any previous treatment. Explain whether you want cleaning only or are investigating a later sealing step. If you compare quotes elsewhere, check whether preparation, joint work, application and follow-up maintenance advice are included. Different scopes can explain why two quotations are not directly comparable.
Tell us about the condition of your paving and ask whether we can include sealing with your patio clean. Discuss the preparation, finish and work to be included before agreeing the quote. The photograph shows patio cleaning work by Prime.
